Reading Curriculum

Rural children and adults often lack access to broad and diverse information sources. Most rural children only have access to their textbooks as reading material. RCEF responds by providing carefully selected books for rural children and teachers and developing methods that promote reading habits and the use of extracurricular books in fostering our goals for students.

This semester, the reading curriculum will work to establish a habit of free, voluntary reading in students at Dong Wu Xing Primary School which has previously not had access to extracurricular books. At Xiaochao Primary School, the other project site which has already had a library for one semester, the project curriculum developers will use book themes to raise students’ awareness and thinking about their surrounding environment.

We will regularly post updates that describe the activities in this class.
